Comments & ID Thoughts

I spotted this deceased spider after work today. Located in Murrieta, Ca. About 1.5 hours south of Los Angeles. The diameter of the curled up spider is approx. 1 inch. Which is larger than I’ve seen around here, other than the occasional tarantula. Any ideas as to what kind of spider this is? Thank you!

I think this is a male trapdoor spider. It is likely to be a male California trapdoor spider because I can see a large notch in its right front leg…https://bugguide.net/node/view/358688/bgimage

Thank you for taking and uploading the photo, it’s interesting. It’s the kind of thing I would take a photo of too, no matter how much it embarrasses my family. 😉 There’s a note inside the link Nod added that says this species holds a “Strongest Spider in the World” Guinness World Record! They live underground and need to come up when it rains to avoid drowning. Something clearly went wrong for this one.
